Winter Sports in the 3 Valleys for Non-Skiers
It’s no secret that thousands of people head to Meribel and Courchevel every year for one thing in particular, and that’s the thrilling skiing and snowboarding adventures. There’s no doubt that skiing enthusiasts of all levels can have plenty of fun getting to grips with the wonders of the French Alps, but if you’re not smitten with skiing then there’s still more than enough to get yourself involved with.
If you can tempt yourself away from your Three Valleys luxury chalet then here’s a list of some of the best winter sports in The 3 Valleys for non-skiers:
Rather than being some form of insult, fat biking refers to a version of mountain biking that you can do on the snow. During the night you can rent out a bike with wide tyres that were designed to handle a snowy terrain, and it’s actually a very fun and playful activity. Your fat biking adventure also comes with safety gear and a guide who will make sure you get down the mountain safely, so all you have to worry about is taking in those jaw-dropping views of the 3 Valleys.

Airboarding is similar to body-boarding, only you’re doing it on an inflatable and you’re speeding down a mountain! You travel head-first and pick up some great speed along the way, making this a very thrilling new activity that is gaining popularity here in Courchevel and Meribel. Airboarding is often restricted to certain areas, to make sure that you don’t start hurtling down a piste that isn’t designed for it. Remember, ski safety ratings are there for a reason!
If you fancy yourself as a bit of an adventurer then nothing will beat the challenge of ice-climbing. Courchevel has its own ice climbing wall and mountain guides are available to teach you how to use it. If you’re experienced at ice-climbing you may even be taken to the frozen waterfalls in the Valley and test your skills there. It’s definitely something to put on the bucket list and make yourself feel like a video game character!
Slightly less extreme – but still very challenging to beginners – is ice skating. This activity is perfect if you’re in a group of friends or as a family. You can take in the stunning surroundings of the 3 Valleys at the same time, making it the perfect winter exercise if you’re looking for something with a slightly slower pace than skiing.
