Skiing in Courchevel
What makes Courchevel one of the best ski resorts in France?
Regardless of age, ability or interests, Courchevel holidays have something to offer everyone. Popular with families, students and celebrities alike, this luxurious resort becomes a home away from home for an enormous number of guests every winter. So, what does a ski holiday in Courchevel look like? Here’s a closer look at what its slopes have to offer.
An Overview of Courchevel, France
The resort is made up of a cluster of four stunning villages, Courchevel 1850, Courchevel Moriond 1650, Courchevel Village 1550 and Courchevel Le Praz, each one offering its own unique charms. Getting around these magnificent villages is easy, as a free bus service runs throughout the Three Valleys.
The sheer size of the resort on its own is impressive, but this is made even more magnificent when you consider the grandeur of its wider location. Courchevel is located in the world’s largest linked ski area, the Three Valleys, sharing 600km of pistes. These are served by 169 modern ski lifts, which your Courchevel lift pass will allow you to access.
There are 321 runs in total: 132 blue, 106 red, 32 black and 51 green.
Skiing in Courchevel is an unmissable experience, as it alone claims 150km of these excellent slopes, boasting variation that suits a range of skill levels. Expert, intermediate and beginner alike will find their needs met in this world-class resort. For those who haven’t been skiing before, there’s a wide range of superb ski schools located here.
Those seeking the off-piste experience are also guaranteed to find it, with many exciting trails available for exploration. Whichever slope you choose, you’ll be greeted by some simply spectacular views of Mont Blanc, that rival those found on a postcard.
Snow Conditions in Courchevel
Thanks to its comfortable altitude of 1300m and many north-facing slopes, Courchevel can boast great snowfall. Of course, the best ski holidays aren’t solely about the snow, but it’s a key ingredient. The highest lift reaches 2740m, giving keen skiers access to the more challenging Alpine runs.
Towards the end of the season, as the weather gets warmer, the resort is served by numerous snow cannons to ensure skiers still receive the most enjoyable experience. With this in mind, it’s apparent why this is one of the most sought-after ski areas in France. Check the current Courchevel snow conditions here.
Activities, Après-Ski and Restaurants
While superb skiing is an ingredient required of any Alpine getaway, it’s not the only necessity. What happens off the slopes is equally as important as what happens on them! However, Courchevel wouldn’t be held in such high esteem around the world if it didn’t excel in every area.
Those who are keen to try an exciting winter activity will delight in the range on offer in this resort. From ice skating to sledding, there’s something to suit all ages, each serving to help make your next Alpine trip one to remember for years to come. This is just one reason why Courchevel has established itself as one of the most child-friendly resorts in France. Here, luxury family ski holidays are guaranteed!
But, older visitors have plenty to keep them entertained also. Thanks to its eclectic array of bars and clubs, Courchevel comes to life in the evenings, making it enormously popular with those looking for an exceptional night out. The après ski is some of the best found in the Three Valleys. While it’s not as lively as the neighbouring Méribel, the mix between cosy bars and late-night clubbing means everyone can find something to suit their tastes.
If you’re in need of something to eat, perhaps for a romantic night out, you’ll be spoilt for choice about where to dine first. Courchevel is home to no less than seven Michelin-starred restaurants, perfect for those who enjoy splendid, sumptuous experiences.
But, fine dining isn’t the only option on the menu. The resort is soaked with French charm, which means there are numerous restaurants whose menus have taken inspiration from traditional local cuisine. As well as this, there are many establishments who open their doors for those who simply fancy a light, refreshing meal.
Evidently, this region of the Alps caters to all – irrespective of appetite.
