Méribel is without doubt one of the premier ski resorts in the world, and each year it only gets better. During the off-season the experts have been hard at work making sure the Three Valleys retains its position as one of the ultimate skiing destinations, all set for the grand opening on 9th December 2017. There have been changes on and off the pistes to improve comfort and pleasure for skiers, and extra attention has been paid to the finer details which will add value to your Méribel ski holiday. These are the big changes coming to Méribel for the 17/18 ski season.
Improvements to Ski Lifts & Access
The ski lifts are constantly improving in Méribel, and every year they receive upgrades. This season they have replaced the elderly Roc de Tougne draglifts with a new chairlift, which will get visitors up the mountain much quicker. This new lift has a high-speed setting and 6 seats, transporting skiers up to the summit in just three minutes. Even in poor weather conditions, the chairlift will still operate, allowing the link between Méribel and Saint Martin Belleville, Les Menuires and Val Thorens to be open at all times.
Better Facilities for Beginners
If you’re a beginner to skiing, you’ll find it even easier to learn the ropes in Méribel. Two of the green slopes have been re-designed and the Escargot slope in the Tougnète now has an alternative green route just for beginners. Additionally, part of the beginner Blanchot piste above the Altiport has a new path to make the drop easier and less daunting. Meribel is definitely a great location if you’re heading up the mountains for the first time.

More Fun Areas for Children
A Meribel ski holiday is for everyone, and that includes families. Those of you travelling with children will be happy to hear that they’ve improved the popular ‘Yeti Park’ in Méribel Mottaret. There are now even more fun features, including modules and characters on the 3.4 km Black Forest Mission sled run. They’ve added a zip-wire, toboggans and igloos, and we’re sure there will be at least a few parents who also enjoy this part of the resort this season…
Free WiFi on the Slopes
Some people prefer a digital detox when they’re on a skiing holiday, but obviously when you’re in Méribel the temptation to shout about it can be too much! Now you can tweet, upload your amazing snaps to Instagram and keep in contact with everyone back home whilst on the slopes. All thanks to the extended WiFi spots around the whole resort, which means you’ll spend less time looking for signal and more time making your friends jealous!
More Relaxing Spots
We all need a well-deserved break during a hard day’s worth of skiing, if not to catch our breath then definitely to take in more of the scenery. Well now you can take a seat on some of the newly designed furniture dotted around the resort, including a heart-shaped sofa for all the lovers to enjoy. You’ll also find dragon hammocks on the Pic Bleu and foam benches at la Chaudanne and Altiport. These spots will be joining the existing cabins, where you can charge your phone and get free WiFi.

More Snow Cannons
Let’s face it, the most important part of any ski resort is the powder, and Méribel has increased its snow making facilities even more this year. The Altiport reservoir has doubled in capacity, which means that over 65% of Méribel Alpina’s ski area now has snow cannons!
