Getting the Most Out of Your Luxury Skiing Holiday
If you are splashing out on a 5-star winter sports experience, get ready to enjoy your holiday to the full. Maximum value for money is the idea here: squeezing every last ounce of pleasure from the sumptuous accommodation, prime location and superb ski amenities for which you are paying.
Set yourself a fitness challenge – whether you are already in pretty good shape or you could really do with losing a few pounds is not particularly important. What is important is your intent: letting your mind know how serious you are about your upcoming trip will ensure that you are ready to grab every opportunity for fun and relaxation that comes your way. Besides, if a day on the slopes makes you so tired that all you want to do is fall into bed when you get back to your chalet, you will miss half the fun of a luxury winter sports holiday.
Put together a realistic exercise and diet plan and stick to it. If motivation is an issue, use pictures of luxury ski chalets in fabulous alpine resorts to keep you focused on your goal. Find a stunning shot of Courchevel 1850 and make it your screensaver, stick posters of snow-covered mountains all around your home. In short, do whatever it takes to maintain your enthusiasm in the countdown to your extravagant Alpine adventure.
Hire a car – this advice cannot be stressed strongly enough in my opinion. I don’t care if you are planning to rent a luxury ski in, ski out chalet in Meribel with a butler, a chef and a team of housekeepers on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; you are still going to need your own transportation if you want to take full advantage of the fabulous location for which you are paying. Skiing is sure to be your main focus but it would be criminal not to take advantage of the high-end spas, haute cuisine eateries, designer retail outlets and numerous leisure facilities in the surrounding area during your stay. Take my advice: do yourself a big favour and hire yourself a car for your holiday. If you really don’t want to drive, hire a chalet with a chauffeur!
Go to ski school – we all like to think that we have all the right moves and are sure to be the star of the slopes on our next winter sports break but the truth of the matter is that most of us would benefit from expert instruction. The best resorts – think Chamonix, Meribel, Courchevel and Val d’Isère – have top instructors and fantastic facilities. Make the most of the opportunity to hone your skills while you are on holiday by booking some lessons with a first-class ski school.
In my opinion, preparation is crucial. If you prepare your mind and body beforehand, you will already be more than halfway to achieving your goal of making the most of your luxury ski holiday before you even depart on your winter adventure.
