When you think skiing holidays, it would not be unreasonable to assume that the majority of your time is going to be spent either on your skis, or enjoying yourself into the small hours at an après ski party. But why limit yourself? Most ski resorts can offer a wide range of thrilling activities for adrenaline junkies hoping to find their next fix. Here is just some of the entertainment that awaits…

Go bobsledding

Skiing or snowboarding not fast enough for you? Few winter sports can get the endorphins rushing like a bobsled experience. Several ski resorts will allow you to get a taste of what it feels like to be an Olympic athlete, as you hurtle down the track at speeds of up to 70mph.

Ride a roller coaster

So, your friends boast about their summer holidays to theme parks? Have they tried a mountain coaster though? These hair-raising rides are bigger and longer than anything you’ll find at Disneyland. The Alpine Coaster at the Imster Bergbahnen resort, for example, starts at 1,500 meters above sea level and is 3.5 kilometers long. Or, how about the Gold Runner coaster at Breckenridge? This 2,500 feet ride runs through the forest and above the ski runs.

Try snow rafting

While skiing or snowboarding requires a degree of athleticism to enjoy it to the fullest, there’s no need for training when snow rafting or snow tubing! As the name suggests, this means heading down specially-designated slopes in an inflatable boat with half a dozen or so others, or going it alone in a tube. Simple – but great fun!

Ride a snowmobile

Who watched A View To A Kill and didn’t want to have a go at snowmobiling? Well, there are plenty of ski resorts where you can live out your James Bond fantasies. Riding these motorised machines is not just exciting, but also freeing, as you’ll often be able to get to areas of the mountains you couldn’t otherwise access and soak up some exclusive views.
