Best Winter Events in Courchevel and Meribel 2017
The snow has started to fall and once again the 3 Valleys is welcoming visitors from all over the world for a fantastic winter holiday. Europa Cup, Alpine Skiing – 23rd-27th January | Meribel
The Roc de Fer piste, previously the host of a Women’s World Cup in 2013 and the finals of the World Cup in 2015, will be the proving ground for competitors in the Europa Cup. There are a number of challenges, including a Super-G speed event, a slalom technical event and a downhill speed event, so athletes have to arrive with a full range of skills if they are to come out as the winner.
Snow and Fire Show – 7th, 14th and 21st February | Courchevel
This spectacular event brings together board sports and fireworks for an unmissable show. Ski instructors from the Ecole du Ski Français show off a plethora of various winter sport techniques – traditional and new disciplines – using flaming torches and projectors to thrill the crowd. Then you get to take in the stunning fireworks with a few helpings of traditional mulled wine to really heat things up. On the 21st February the show will be celebrating its 70th anniversary, and the performers will be pulling out all of the stops for that one!
International Festival of Pyrotechnic Art – 9th, 16th, 23rd, and 28th February | Courchevel
This is the 13th edition of the International Fireworks Festival, and each year it attracts over 8,000 spectators. With stunning fireworks and the backdrop of snowy mountains and ski runs, you know that this is not an event to be missed. There’s also a traditional torch-lit descent by Courchevel ski instructors, and of course some mulled wine that you can indulge in. Make sure you add these shows to your calendars!
Verdons by Night XXL – 22nd February | Courchevel
Night skiing doesn’t get much better than this! Participants will get to ski down the resort on a floodlit Verdons piste while listening to some great music. There’s also a Family Park dancefloor and the chance to treat yourself by roasting marshmellows on the open fire. This exceptional night will also see you riding the Verdons gondola and the Grangettes gondola, so you can take in the stunning views from a high vantage point.
Samse National Biathlon Tour – 11th-12th March | Meribel
The biathlon is a unique winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting, and in March you’ll get to see the athletes in the Samse tour. There’s a spectacular mass-start that is not to be missed, as well as the sprint – which is a shorter event involving three circuits broken up by two shooting rounds. Definitely a must-watch event if you’re a fan of competitive winter sport.
Finale Millet Ski Touring 2017 – 23rd March | Courchevel
Every Wednesday during the season, ski mountaineers challenge themselves to trek 3.2km between Le Praz and La Croisette in Courchevel. On Thursday 23rd March the grand finale takes place, and you’ll even get to see people dressed up in fancy dress as they attempt the Vertical Race course. Afterwards Patrick Sebastien, the famous French TV host, will be keeping the party going from 9pm until late at Courchevel’s Envolée gymnasium, so make sure you attend for a night of great entertainment.
